A is For Asthma
This Childhood Asthma Awareness Project was developed by the Children's Television Workshop, the American Lung Association and funded through a generous grant given by the Prudential Foundation. It consists of the implementation of preschool age asthma education through the use of a Sesame Street® video, caregivers guide and posters.
Asthma Attack ~ Asthma Research Initiative
The American Lung Association of Massachusetts has joined our national office and other Lung Associations across the United States and identified the elimination of asthma as a primary mission for the next decade. The American Lung Association has long been aware of the need, and has always been at the forefront in supporting research and training. Now, as improved management of asthma, and eventually a cure, are within sight, ALA has launched the Asthma Research Initiative, the campaign that will lead the way in coordinating the research to control and cure asthma.
The Asthma Research Initiative is an exciting program designed to embrace dozens of research and medical science facilities throughout the country, with hundreds of doctors and researchers focused on asthma and building on each other's findings. In Massachusetts, ALAM funds research as some of the finest research facilities in the state including: Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, B.U. School of Medicine, NEMC/Tufts, Harvard School of Public Health and Channing Laboratories.
The Asthma Research Initiative will support and promote research to find better treatments to control and ultimately cure asthma. There are numerous opportunities available for Massachusetts-based individuals and corporations to contribute to the Asthma Research Initiative.
Asthma Clinical Research Center
American Lung Association’s scientific research saves lives and improves lives in every community in America. Research goals extend beyond medical treatment. It is also the backbone of our education programs, community outreach, and public health policy work, which benefit all Americans. Through its targeted, efficient investment in focused research studies, the American Lung Association uncovers answers to questions that impact a wide range of medical issues regarding lung diseases, the public’s air quality, and other related risk-factors.
Counting on You
An individually tailored educational program for teachers and childcare providers. It is designed to teach the warning signs of an asthma attack and how to prevent asthma episodes. The program also helps childcare center workers identify asthma triggers that are present in their facilities and how to make their centers as healthy as possible for children with asthma.
Open Airways For Schools
Open Airways For Schools consists of six lessons for children with asthma, ages 8-11. Generally held during the school day, each lesson takes about 40 minutes, and the program is flexible to fit each school's schedule. The program's interactive teaching approach utilizes group discussion, stories, games, and role-play to promote children's active involvement in the learning process.
